I always remember this match as if it was yesterday, grew up hating Steve McLaren when he dropped David Beckham seeing England play without him hurt me, I'll forever blame him for this loss. However, having watched this match again in full this time (because usually I'll watch the highlights) I have noticed that this game wasn't entirely his fault, don't get me wrong us getting to that point where qualification wasn't certain heading into the last game was his fault, however in this game his tactics of playing it to Crouch was smart especially against a side that dominated in possession in the midfield, however Joe Cole wasn't in the right places and Wright Phillips at times got out leaped or muscled, there was a chance SWP had where I believe he should've hit it first time. Gareth Barry was idle there was times I even forgot he was playing I felt like Hargreaves would've been the better pick for this game that needed creativity, Wayne Bridge was wasteful at times, his decision making in the final third really cost us a chance to get back into the game before half time, almost made us concede a goal with a silly mistake. Frank Lampard was the WORST player on the pitch, it hurts me because he is my hero watching this again made me see how invisible he was in this match the only thing that saved him was scoring the penalty I've never been so disappointed in Lampard in my entire life. Lescott and Campbell was an awkward pairing, Sol did well at times but that second goal the whole back 4 went to sleep. David Beckham made an instant impact when coming on but I feel like once we got back into the game he went idle, Defoe done well to win us the penatly but went idle after that, Darren Bent could've done a little bit better with his chance knowing the circumstances we was in the final 10 minutes. Peter Crouch was our best player could've had 2 or 3 assist the way he was playing felt like he was let down by Joe Cole and Shawn Wright Phillips, even Gerrard and Lampard could've done what they do against the bottom 10 teams in the PL by getting in the right areas, just shows how much of frauds our players can be. Last but CERTAINLY not least SCOTT CARSON OH MY WORD. I do feel sorry for him but my God was an idiot he was in the first goal, he should've never played seeing David James and Paul Robinson on the bench got me more frustrated why would you make an EXPERIMENT during a very important game for your job and COUNTRY. Thanks for making this game accessible to watch in full, I can now whole heartly see that McLaren was let down by FRAUDS, this could've been avoided had he not make a silly goalkeeping decision.
Thank you for your in-depth heartfelt analysis! :-)
